Wow, umm, really? You work for some seriously shitty parents. I'm not going to go all CPS/alarm bells, but if you think it is normal, I'm shocked. And I'm VERY glad you are not my nanny (which I am sure of if nothing else because my nanny is live out).

OP, so sorry. I was also shocked by the crazy people blaming you.

I'm glad you have alternative care options. When you recover, consider whether your mom is having bigger issues (addiction, early stages of dimentia clouding her judgement). And obviously, no more time unattended with the kids.

Do you always ask questions that have always been answered? Yes the OPs mother took RX drugs (that's the OP did not know about) and drank wine while taking them.

OP, so sorry. I agree this is hugely neglectful. You probably cannot trust your mom as a babysitter in the future. But I agree with the other PPs that you should go to sleep and let this go before you do anything else. In the mean time, do not call your mom or interact with her. Hang out with DH. Can he take care of you? That sounds like a really, really crappy day. I'm so sorry.

Maybe after a week or so you can talk with your mom, but if she is taking major pills and denying it, she is just not trustworthy. Find a babysitter you trust for situations like this in the future, preferably a professional.

Again, really sorry. Have a drink, take a bath, whatever you do to relax. Then get some sleep. I hope things will look at bit better after you get some rest.

So all of the posters who think OP is overreacting, would you be fine if this happened to your toddler? I'm sorry but that would be really scary for a child of that age. Hell, that would be scary for my five your old to be locked in her room alone for four hours not knowing what's going on.

Ummm... no, this is not "normal."

So sorry for all you're going through, OP. I have a mother who will never have my ds overnight for just this reason and it sucks to not be able to rely on family, especially during tough times! thinking of you

No, it is NOT normal. At all. I don't think it is case for the police (unless it is an everyday thing and the child is not being fed properly and has rashes) as pp said, but it is definitely not normal. It is pretty shitty behavior actually.

Nice try. It is not normal just because you have witnessed it. Next time call the police. Repeat, it is not normal.

OP back. Thank you for all of the supportive posts. I appreciate them a lot. I am just such a wreck today.

My husband and I were just talking about it and he said he found a large wine glass in the sink this morning (well.. afternoon) when we were there. So, I think 22:28 is right on target with what happened. It was a large dose and with the wine, that probably would have knocked anyone out for that length of time.

The killer is I have some good friends who would have HAPPILY taken my daughter this morning, plus we have babysitters- it's not like I didn't have another option! She just really wanted to do it.. I am still just so disgusted and then trying to throw the blame on me makes it 100000x worse. Oh well. I know it will all be ok. But my daughter is never going there again unattended.
