We got this too. Done for their church directory. They ordered the 11x13 frame with an individual head shot of each of them and one of the two of them together. It even has "Olan Mills" stamped in the corners.

I hate the thing. I glare at it whenever I walk by it. It was also our Christmas gift. A framed photo of yourself is never really a gift to another person, sorry. The same year, we also got a framed wedding portrait of BIL/SIL. I don't even have our own wedding photo hung in the house, wtf would I hang one of BIL/SIL?

I feel for you OP.

We don't have anything else like this in our house. And already had plenty of non-posed non Olan Mills photos on our photo wall before this arrived of his parents. Way more than of my family already. It looks so out of place and disrupts the balance of our more candid wall of family photos.

I agree with the guest room. Our main floor has photos either of DH, me and the kids, and we have one 8x10 of our entire extended family at a recent wedding.

We also keep photos in our guestrooms. My parents are alive, DH's are dead. We have photos in frames of them in at least one of the guest rooms along with other family photos and artwork.

They'll see it when the visit. DH knows it's there, and assuming you don't go in your spare bedroom every day, you don't have to see it.

I would be pissed if dh "stored" a photo of my parents without talking to me about it first so I wouldn't do it to him.

Do not toss it. In the past year we have buried two family members.. any photos would mean a lot. If you put it in an album somewhere, great but don't toss it.

OP, if you have a guest room, put it in there. Otherwise, DH's office. Otherwise, put it away and then take it out when they visit, or else put up a collage of photo frames on some less-visible wall and crop theirs, put it in a smaller frame, and hide it among the other pictures.

My mom's parents had oil portraits done of themselves. It would not surprise me if my ILs did this soon too.
