Yes, there are a handful of exceptions to any rule.

However, if you can get a job as a fed, odds are very very good that you will not work a minute over a forty hour week.

45 hours a week- between 250 and 300k.

A friend of mine works in a production environment. The slackers do not work 40 hours and pump out poor quality work. The ones who care about quality put in more than 40 hours. The former love the job; the latter hate it.

Government contractor on a contract with very strict annual hours balancing out to 40hrs/wk. As a result, I work 40hr/wk. Make $130K.

When we are at the base level, the active duty military usually works around 50-60 hours per week or more.

With very, very rare exceptions, the civilians never worked a minute over 40 hours per week. They also were very vigilant about taking their breaks and maintaining a much more relaxed work pace.

OP here, I posted because I am looking to return to the workforce after 4 years off and it seems (at least on DCUM) that people work all the time, even after hours in bed checking and responding to emails. I just wanted to get an idea of what the norm is. I work pretty efficiently too and in my past jobs was able to get my work done in 40 hours or less. It's good to hear that people are really valuing their time off work and that it is possible to do so. Thanks for all of the insight.

was this post to see if people are working overtime anymore? I am not working 50 or 60 hours a week. You already spend more time at work than you do at home. We should really be working 4 days on and 3 days off.
