The SAT score for Wakefield is among the lowest in Northern Va. W-L's scores are behind Yorktown's but respectably high compared to Farifax County schools. Didn't W-L have the most National Merit Finalists in Arlington last year. There are a ton of really smart kids at that school.

Wakefield is a fine school, and if the school board zoned more higher income neighborhoods to the school its test scores would go up, and the extracurricular offerings would improve. Demographics do define a school's reputation. Because of the large cohort of affluent and motivated students at W-L and of course Yorktown, families chose those schools over Wakefield.

They are moving into Arlington in large part because of the solid reputation of the schools, especially in N Arlington. If W-L had a mediocre reputation outside of Arlington as you imply, the schools in that high school pyramid would not be filling up with new families who could easily afford private school.

The reason GS rating is higher is because there are a higher amount of minorities (hispanics and black) with much better test scores so it means Annandale is doing something better than WL.
