And the flower. Unnecessary.
I went to catholic school and they're extremely picky. They knew that going in.
I was not allowed to wear my hair down either and I complied.
You have a problem with a 12 year-old girl wearing a flower in her hair? Really?

Anonymous wrote:My white child in private would be dress coded for hair like that. Private schools have dress codes and they enforce them. This girl (or probably her mother) is just attention seeking.
I agree but if she is bullied because the kids think that look is extreme, what then?Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I couldn't agree with you more. Corn rows would look nice on her and would not be distracting.
I would agree with you ONLY if I could see the lengths and styles of hair of non-black children. Anyone's hair past a certain length would be a distraction and unsanitary IMHO.Anonymous wrote:I think her hair is pretty and if this was a public school, my response would be different.
But it's a private school with a strict dress code that includes rules about your hair. They can do what they want. Your remedy is to not go there anymore.

When I was in elementary school way back in yesteryear, girls wore BIG afros and short ones. I went to parochial school, and nobody was about to be kicked out for huge afros. Of course, those were the days of say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud (thanks James Brown). My afro was just a teensy bit shorter than that girl's hair.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Would you prefer she put chemicals in her hair to straighten it?Anonymous wrote:Her hair is a god-awful mess.
Np here and I agree that it's a mess.
To the pp there is actually no need for her to straighten it.
She can style it differently without straightening it and I'm sure it would comply with the rules of not being distracting. After all she has been going to this same school since the 3rd grade and has managed to style her hair in other manners that have not been distracting over the past 4 years.
