Use shaved parmigiano reggiano instead of blue cheese. Please no raw onions. And no nuts. I like the pomegranate seeds idea. Very festive. And add to the mixed lettuce some frisée and endive and that's a fancy salad.

Add some seasonal veggies to it like squash or pumpkin. Yum! And they go great with nuts, blue cheese, craisins, etc.

I also love peas, endemame, beans of chick peas but I might be weird. And artichoke hearts or asparagus will fancy it right up! When we entertain, we go all out and expect if someone is bringing the salad, they better do more than just lettuce and dressing.

Folks -- make whatever you want, but home made bacon bits or pancetta bites or crisped pepperoni will make that salad disappear.

Same for me!! Hello Midwesterner!

And by "homemade" you still start with the grocery store packet, right?
