Not everyone gets great parents, that is the luck of the draw, but everyone can choose what they are going to do with their own lives. So she can choose to sit there whining and moping about how awful her life and her parents are, or she can choose to make the decisions she needs to make to get to where she wants to be.
She is also fortunate that she has grandparents, aunt, uncles, cousins and other family there as well. Unless she is an absolute menace I am sure there is someone within the family that is or would be a supportive person for her.

The fact that she will lose her status and can never come back to the US doesn't sound strange to you?
She was never a US citizen to begin with.
That's what's odd about it. Her mom could have adjusted Sofia's status as a dependent.
Her mother doesn't want her back. She was a pain in the ass teenager and her mother sent her to live with her father. Lots of divorced parents send kids to live with the other parent, her other parent just happens to be in the far white north.
She never knew this father and they don't even speak the same language. And apparently he's an abusive drunk...[/quote]
So says the same girl that told her mom the wad of cash the girl stole was really from her drug trafficking business. No wonder you believe her word on her father...

If this girl thinks she is worthy of an American Citizenship, she can apply for it like every other immigrant. She was doing drugs and bringing her boyfriend inside her home at age 15!!!
What they did was not illegal by any stretch of imagination - they put her on a plane to visit her father and didn't renew her green card. They have no obligation to renew her green card.
I hope this girl uses this time of hardship to mature and become a better, responsible person.

I was a wild and crazy 15 yr old, did so many stupid things. My mother had the option of sending me away, she had family in another country, but there was no way she would have. She didn't give up on me and loved me relentlessly. That is being a mom.
I turned out fine, went to UVa, and have done very well in life.
Now as a mother myself, I can understand why my mom did it, there is no way I could give up on my children because I love them so much I would give my life for them. It's easier to give up and walk away, it's much harder to love unconditionally.
This woman loved herself more than her daughter but fine some people are just ultimately selfish, but then she punished her daughter in such a cruel way. It's heartless.
