OP here. Thank you everyone for the thoughtful suggestions, and insight into some perspectives that I hadn't thought of.
My bf isn't an ass, but in this department I do wonder about some of the things he says/questions.
I do think it's healthy to question each other when in a relationship- to provoke thought, inspire, maybe kick you in the butt when you need it. But I do also feel like it's a fine line- we all have our opinions on these things and depending on how strong those opinions or ideas are, it's hard to discuss calmly and objectively.

I will write more later or tomorrow- dinner is cookin!

OP, if you are looking for a career that you would be quite qualified for with your BA in Psychology and nanny experience, look into becoming a behavior therapist. It can pay quite well and there are always opportunities for advancement.
