So barbers and hairdressers are different. A $20 for a barber is the norm but not for a hairdresser. If that’s all you had, it’s fine.

$5 or 20%, whichever is greater.

So, a cup of coffee that actually for you is more important than feeling cheap? I'd rather not have to ask back the $2. Make your own coffee at home. A cup is not worth $2. You'd rather give the extra $2 to another business than to a person who took care of your kid. Extra money quite often means extra care for your kid. I remember who tipped and who skipped or was cheap. $3 on haircut regardless of the price is cheap. I give more to a person on the street and I'm not rich.

This tread is from 2013. Why the need to resurrect it?

Hairstylist do not make that much money. We only get a percentage or if we rent a booth overhead is high and product cost eat up a-lot. It s a very hard job and most end up with carpal tunnel. neck problems, varicose veins, and a lot have respiratory problems or cancer from breathing chemicals for years. There is no retirement or benefits like health, vacation, or sick leave. Hairstylist are behind the chair until they die or change professions. Please keep this in mind when deciding to cut your own hair( FYI a self buzz usually looks like a convict cut) or when you decide to tip or not. However, I give a discount to kids cuts when the parents give me there business as well. When developing a relationship with a hairstylist or barber I think you'll notice more effort to make you happy and for you to tell people about them. Word of mouth is our best advertisement. And we realize your financial hardships. Ive given many free cuts for clients that have lost jobs, became ill, Birthday presents or graduates.

Give them a $20 if you don't want your child to look progressively more stupid after every haircut...that is, if you frequent the same place.

The level of cheapness on this thread is disgusting.
