Thanks for the comments regarding settlement checks. I have one for 8.23 – such a small amount for what could be so much trouble. It's hard to tell truth from fiction; real from fake. I have too much to lose if I compromise my account number when I deposit it. I’ll wait a few more days, (60), and do a little more investigating.

Maybe some of the pps can give you their checks they won't be cashing. And who drinks grape crush?

Crime must have been rampant on your beat - you're dumb as a block.

Only thing that looked "suspect" to me was that on the back of the tiny check I received for $8 had no place on the back to really endorse it like normal checks, did I get a misprint or all their checks like this and I can just sign it anywhere....
Thanks

The $8.23 amount is related to the amount of charges you made in the other country. If you were below a certain dollar amount of charges you receive the $8.23 as the allocated amount of settlement.

The suit was related to when the credit card companies "timed" each charge vs. the exchage rate (in terms of which day).

I received one for $8.23 too. Was traveling in Europe during that time. Okay, I'll cash it, sounds legit. Thanks.

I got one as well for $8.23, and I do not have an A.E. card. The only two times I can think of a settlement was (1) 2004-Caribbean cruise and charges on our Visa/MC were part of a legal claim re: overcharging; and (2) 2003-Trip to U.K. again w/my MC of the tax they have, including tourists (sorry, don't remember exactly the term, but I filled out paperwork to get reimbursed for it, since non-citizens do not pay, yet citizens do.

I will cash this check.

I got about $60 and cashed it. It's legit.

I think purchasing that last-minute business class airplane ticket from Stockholm to Washington at the airport probably kicked my settlement value higher than many people. Took a beating on that one, but had to do it.

Read above, PP. It wasn't just American Express cardholders who were getting ripped off.

I got a check and have never owned an American Express card. Bank advised not to cash since I had received no previous correspondence and never owned a card

That's the spirit! Enjoy! But just to note, we're 1%ers and would never pay $4 for a cup of coffee. Hhhmmm. I wonder if there's a correlation?

Hmm. Perhaps I should leverage my $6.50 to buy coffee futures, which are at a three-year low. I'll be rolling in beans! http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-05-22/coffee-futures-fall-to-three-year-low-on-inventory-surge.html

And the credit card companies thank you. Do you also cut up gift cards the grand kids give you?
