Honestly OP I hate the color of your choice. Prefer the color and style of your daughter's choice.

Part of growing up is choosing your own clothes, particularly a prom dress.

OP, I think as long as the dress is not skanky or overly revealing (and it is not), you need to let it go. Now, $250 seems like a lot. Can you see if there is a way she can do chores to pay for it?

For my senior prom, I had my heart set on a (very 90s) 2 piece, mid-drift bearing pink satin dress. I couldn't find one in our price range so my mom MADE it for me even though she wasn't crazy about the idea. I wasn't at all revealing actually, and I was a total HS athlete so I rocked my 17 year old 6-pack. Looking back I still think it was pretty bad-ass!

DD's pick is fine and OP's choices were for color not style. All 3 were nice prommie dresses. When I was young my mom was a real pain and I had 1 dress that I actually picked out myself. She even made the wedding gown into a very miserable issue.

There were 5 or 6 girls in the group my teen was in last week who had dresses of a similar color, and it looked great on each of them, regardless of their skin and hair color.

Prom is a special event; I think you should get what your daughter wants. As the PP's have said, she could have chosen something much, much worse.

i am surprised it's pretty classy looking too, even if it's not your style. at least it's not showing her crotch and boobs like she's about to walk the track.

Wow. You're daughter has classy taste! At least it's not all skanky like plenty of other prom dresses Ive seen. You and your daughter may have different tastes but you defintately raised her well. Keep up the great work mom!

FWIW, we are AA and my daughter has a complexion similar to your daughter. My daughter wore a dress of similar color and I was not crazy about it at first. We took her dress to the make-up counter at Nordstrom and they came up wth a great look to match the dress. She looked fantastic!!!!! I mean...stunning.

I think $250 is too much, but the dress you posted is cute. Are you worried it'll wash her out? (that color would be a little strong for some complexions.) I'd say "i'm sorry, but we need to keep it under $150" (or whatever) and that might do the trick.
