Subject: "Tangled" the movie- negative theme re: adoption?
In all seriousness there is a growing body of research that suggests adoption creates trauma, even in the best of circumstances. You can go on all day about how no rational adult would conflate legal adoption with kidnapping. But if you suspect your young child may react differently you need to accept that.

Kids get freaked out by all sorts of illogical things. Why are so many on this thread resisting the notion that an adoptee "may" have a bad reaction to a movie that really is about an... let's call it a very unethical adoption

You explain she was kidnapped and is held against her will for her hair. It has zero to do with adoption! No, I don't see how a 4 yo would conflate abusive kidnapping with adoption.
She is not held against her will... Sort of. She is certainly not in chains and in fact easily escapes the first time she ever attempts escape. There is more to their relationship than hair. The kidnapper appears to Rapunzel as an overly protective mother but no worse than that until the very end.

Oh wow. Now we're accusing adopted kids of playing the victim card/being crazy if they haven't come to terms 100% with their adoption? You have no idea.

+1. Not sure why people are being so mean and dismissive. Kids think differently and adoption IS complex-- I'm not an adoptive mom, but I can understand given all the issues around adoption why a parent would be sensitive about it, and I can imagine a young girl in a snit yelling that her mom is an evil thief and her real mom wouldn't do ___.
