She had actually worked out earlier in the day at the gym. In fact, my friend signed in right after her that day and was interviewed by the FBI. She actually wasn't wearing her running shoes - they were back at her apartment.
She was wearing Keds.
I always thought it was someone she knew - that she was meeting someone there. In one article I read, it said she had her lipstick with her. No woman goes for a run with her lipstick unless she's planning on meeting someone along the way.
According to the Washington Post article, she was wearing
tennis shoes--also known as sneakers or athletic shoes back in the day. Sports bra, sweatshirt, and running tights. She was probably still wearing the clothes that she worked out it. And it's not unheard of for people two have more than one pair of athletic shoes.
Her remains were found 1 year later and did find a "silver-colored lipstick case with the lipstick intact" in the area. Her remains were scattered over the hillside. The shin bone was found 2 years later.
Where did you read that the lipstick actually belonged to her? If it was intact they could easily test for DNA. Also, since her purse was at her apartment with her license, she probably left her apartment with at least her keys, maybe some cash. Maybe she carried a small change purse with her and the contents were scattered. Or the lipstick was randomly left behind by someone else.
