Can anyone compare Wake to William and Mary? We got the sense on the tour that Wake was particularly strong with out placement (careers, internships). But would it be worth turning down in state tuition at WM? I think these two schools are DC's top choices. I am inclined to encourage DC to do ED at WM because I don't see any reason why Wake would be worth the extra cost (DC does value the air conditioned dorms at Wake, though!)

Yes, it's preppy. Not ideal for hipsters or nerds.

US News doesn't agree with you. Guess which opinion matters most to colleges and prospective students?

Vanderbilt and Washington & Lee in the South.

How would you rank those 3, prestige wise.

It's bigger and perhaps considered frattier and more business-oriented.

I agree many in the northeast haven't heard of Wake, which always surprises me. My D was considering it but concerned about name recognition since she hopes to move back to CT. when she graduates.

I will tell you that everyone I interviewed with in DC was impressed with my Wake Forest degree.

I do think it suffers in the shadow of Duke, though.

Visited it, beautiful. Lots to love. BUT it does not seem to have the same cache or name recognition up in the Northeast as it does down south.
