I guess some combination of those things worked in her favor. Like PP said, it shows that kids shouldn't be afraid to apply just because they think they can't get in!

Kid wasn't even going to apply because college counselor was skeptical and not encouraging. Moral of story -- kids should apply and see what happens ... nothing ventured...nothing gained.

Yes to this from another Philadelphian with a relative who teaches at Penn. I thought the U Penn evolved when folks got concerned they were being mixed up with Penn State.
