But really any college will have conservative students. Even though universities are generally left leaning places by nature, most schools now value diversity and have political diversity as well as racial and geographic diversity.

OP, you worry too much. I was a Republican when I went to Columbia, one of the most leftist universities in the country. I rather enjoyed being a Republican at Columbia; it made me something of a rebel. Granted, I am no longer a Republican because the Tea Party and Evangelical movements have alienated me.

Another vote for UVA. I am an independent and turned out to be the most liberal out of my group of friends from UVA.

Chicago's graduate school of economics certainly has a reputation for being conservative. I'm not so sure about undergrad - they're recruiting heavily for the undergrad program's art, music and theater programs these days.

It's a stupid question because he never said his son wanted a Republican-leaning school. OP said HE (or SHE) was a Republican and was looking for schools welcoming to Republicans. If OP comes back and says his son wants a school leaning Republican because said son is Republican, then it is not a stupid question.

This thread demonstrates why someone might want a school where conservatives are welcome. Those immersed in liberal orthodoxy are plainly incapable of understanding (much less accepting) viewpoints other than their own -- incapable of discourse with people who aren’t like them.

That said, many bright minds have survived the best attempts at liberal indoctrination. As Winston Churchill said “show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains.”

OP, if you are still reading, my advice for you is the same as my advice for any parent who wants "X" kind of school for their child: Let him decide. He has to live there and he will know best where he is happy. He may or may not share your politics. He may or may not care to define his school search by politics. What you are asking for is essentially the same as a parent urging their child to study engineering, whether or not they want to. If this is a priority for him, he will figure it out. If it isn't, don't impose it.

And get used to the idea that he may grow up thinking differently from you. Or not. But what you ultimately want is for him to think for himself. So start by letting him pick his own college.

This thread is ridiculous. Afraid your kid will begin to question your politics if he is challenged? If you want to be a good parent let your kid decide and teach him how to defend his positions with facts, stats, etc instead of trying to shield him from any challenging viewpoints.

I went to one of the colleges suggested in this thread, and although I started off somewhat conservative/apathetic, I still ended up growing more and more liberal in college, to the point where I voted for Obama twice, I wanted a public option for healthcare, and I voted for gay marriage. So good luck trying to keep your kid in a bubble OP.
