I recently used bcbs for basic for my birth and everything was covered except the appointment where they confirm pregnancy (since you’re apparently not considered pregnant at that point lol) and a fee for the hospital (a few hundred dollars). My hospital had all private rooms but they wouldn’t have covered a private room if the standard room was shared. I really liked everything about it besides the breast pump they offer -there’s only one option from Ameda and it sucks.

This thread is old. There is no longer IVF coverage.

Pretty certain that none of the federal plans do because of the whole tax dollars thing. Really sorry PP.

Yes, I was in this situation and this is sadly accurate.

Hi everyone,
This thread is very helpful, thanks. I'm new to the federal healthplan world and am looking for the best maternity coverage. When you are talking about BCBS Standard and Basic, is that an HMO plan or a Fee for service? In my area, the BCBS is only offered as fee for service. Is that good maternity coverage?
Thanks!

I was on Aetna for IVF last year and now that I am pregnant, am switching to either BCBS basic or GEHA for the upcoming year.

Do you actually have any basis for saying Aetna doesn't have good maternity benefits or that you'd pay more for NICU?

Their plan has changed, and now the Aetna Open Access benefits are pretty much the same as the MDIPA benefits -- there's a copay. I think it used to be a coinsurance.
