DH is a mechanic, can't wear jewelry, it would get stuck in something and maybe rip off his finger...I met him 30 years ago, our kids are over 21 so it's been quite awhile that we've been together.

I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but, my answer is yes. I have a Nickel allergy. Can't wear white gold at all-- and now the back of the setting on my platinum wedding band is bothering me--I'm guessing there was nickel used in the setting. Anyway, my wedding band now causes blisters that look like I took a blowtorch to my finger. I want to replace it or get it fixed, but, it's not a priority.

I've been married for over 10 years. I stopped wearing my ring 5 years ago (infidelity on husband's part). He still wears his. People probably think we're a cheating couple when we're out.

I don't judge - I know several couples who are married or who are in long term committed relationships with children who do not wear rings. So what? Let other people think what they want to think, who cares??

Been happily married over 16 years, 4 kids. I have NEVER worn my ring, except for the day I got married. No particular reason. It simply doesn't mean much to me. I do wear other rings, though never the same one for long periods of time. I change them all the time.
My husband wore his for a while and then put it away a long time ago.
I have NEVER looked at anyone's hand to see if they are wearing a ring or not. I like jewelry and might notice someone wearing a beautiful ring but don't ever make an assumption of their marital status based on it. It never crosses my mind.
I am not American.

I never wear my wedding ring. I am a teacher and the chalk dries out my hands and gets in the ring making it uncomfortable to wear so I haven't worn it in years. My DH always wears his. A few times, someone I don't know well is surprised when I say that I'm married, but it doesn't really bother me. I know that I am married and so does my husband. That is all that really matters. FWIW, I never assume that the lack of a wedding ring means that someone isn't married. I have found that there are many people like me.

I can think of four reasons to wear it:
1 - To advertize that you are not available.
2 - To show that you manged to "get married" - a significant accomplishment in the eyes of some.
3 - You are afraid of being judged if you take it off.
4 - Everyone else is doing it.

Are there better reasons I missed?

I don't notice what other people are wearing, and I don't judge when people don't wear their rings (I actually posted earlier about my chemist father not wearing his), but I think you are being awfully judgemental for those of us who do wear them. I wear my rings (wedding and engagement) everyday. I've only taken them off 4 times since our wedding (all for surgeries). I'm not showing off or bragging, I'm wearing sentamental items that were given to me on two very special occasions. I enjoy wearing them. I enjoy looking down at my hand and being reminded of those days.

My husband wore his wedding band on our honeymoon -- that was it. He used to be a fighter pilot and couldn't wear jewelry of any kind. I wore my engagement/wedding band set for maybe a month after our wedding, then again during private school tours and to a couple of business functions with my husband (to assure those who judge that we were in fact married). That's it. We will celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary in two weeks and have an incredibly strong marriage.
