$70K, and we have $15K in unusual expenses. We need to be near BW Parkway.

Anacostia, Hillcrest (smaller house), Brentwood are options for sure.

It could be a car used in a business that is registered in MD. I have friends who live in DC and I always do a double tag when I see their car but he uses it for their MD based business.

Through my associations at church and through scouting, I personally know 15 MoCo and PG families that send their kids to DCPS or DC Charter schools. Most do it for convenience (commuting) or special programs (PreK, Duke Ellington, desired charters, etc.).

I also used to take my daughter to a (private) daycare near the Suitland Federal Center. I would drop my kid off, park at the Suitland Metro station and take the train back into the city for work. Every day, dozens of kids would get on the train with me, weating DC Charter school uniforms.

I know of two families that either cheated in the past (kids are grown) or are currently cheating. I am not going to rat anyone out but it does seem odd to me that I know of two families and I am just one person. So likely there are many other people like me that know a couple of cheaters. This all adds up pretty quick. I guess it is still going to be an issue if there is no investigation by DCPS and Charters since I am not going to rat out the family I know. The dilemma....

Proving that parents or admin knowingly provided false information is tough. Witnesses would have to be willing to go on the record. The best bet for compliance is for principal's to have honest conversations with parents and to put up the required signs. Parents shouldn't have to rat each other out.

I swear I've been on these boards for three years and this comes up like clock work, generally twice a year - school starting and lottery time.

There is all this anecdotal evidence. A couple of times in the past 3 years it's attracted some level of attention - there were hearings, right, at the DC Council, and some announcement about the investigative office. And then it dies down again.

Seriously, I would LOVE to know how serious a problem it is. And having endless anonymous people posting on here "it's a big problem! If the father lives in DC and is paying taxes why can't the kid go to school in DC? I live in MoCo and there are defintely kids with divorced parents who live on both sides of the line who are attending MCPS.

As of this week I was at DCPS high-school football scrimmage and I noticed a parent who had her son enrolled in a catholic middle-school last year. This parents resides in PG-County. Well her son attends a DCPS school and I inquired did she move to DC. She said "hell no" but as long as his daddy lives in DC, I'll let'em have the DCPS thrill for awhile. But if it doesn't work out well, he'll be on PG County roles in a heartbeat.

Agreed. It should be, and perhaps at some schools it actually is, and if so, well done to the Administration. It happens at many child care centers, and many private schools. Teachers put a lot of time and effort into their work. They should receive some type of assistance with the educational needs of their own children whenever possible.

00:50 - how much house/tent can you afford? There are low priced options in DC. But then you'll have to play the lottery, as I did, since I couldn't afford Ward 3 or inner Capitol Hill either. Deanwood, Brentwood, Woodridge, Anacostia are all pretty affordable.

It's working out for me so far. We got into several desirable schools through lottery. It's admittedly early in the education process for us.
