Not 'UMd guy", but a few years ago, my friend's son was admitted but it was to start spring semester, and so he took some core courses at a community college in the fall that UMd gave him credit for when he started.

Umd guy , thanks for all the interesting info. I looked into the crime rates and was astonished at College Park being lower than all the other schools in its conference. I also had no clue that Umd grads created so many life altering companies and inventions. I checked all the other Acc schools and it's amazing, the other schools even Duke, Unc, Georgia Tech have no huge impactful graduate contributions while Umd has so many. I also didn't know Umd has more national champions than any Acc school. My son is looking at Umd for computer science but it has become almost impossible to get in. I heard they have a program where you get wait listed and can take classes at night and be enrolled if you have a 3.5 in spring. Is that true?

Falls way short. mass murder, mass woundings, beheadings, fort hood mass murder, roving assault gangs, abduction murders and suicide epidemics are national in scope and happening in close succession. The Bowie state and frostburg cases are bad I haven't researched va lower level schools like Norfolk state but I'm sure it's a show. Bias was an icon.. Like Jim Morrison or bob marley . Everybody loved Lenny who was a gentle soul in the body of a superman. His legacy changed the perception of recreational drug use forever. If a body like that could die anybody could. Umd is proud to have Lenny as a graduate who in school was a good guy and one of the greatest athletes ever seen and in death teaches a powerful lesson and saves lives. Unlike the UVA and VT atrocities that are so horrible it just grosses people out.

I spent many years living near Charlottesville, and don't consider it a scary or violent little city. Honestly, I'm surprised to hear about the crime rate, because I never felt afraid in parking lots or walking around at night there.
