They can dump the social issues and stop pandering to the wingnuts. This would allow them to pick up a lot of people in the middle and even some on the left who are there only because they don't like the Republican attacks on liberty.

But really, some of us who believe in more limited government and think the Democratic Party is (and the recent Republican administration was) not fiscally responsible are becoming increasingly embarrassed by the wahoos in the party. What to do?
I think you need to start a movement; the "reasonable republican" movement. Shed the extremeist contributions to ideology. Not like your gonna lose the redneck vote to Obummer.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Republicans need to weed out the extreme elements of their party especially the bigots, racists, and anti-gay crowds.
As a black guy, I know that not every living breathing republican is racist or part of the above crowd. I do believe though that they cater to the fears and sentiments of that crowd and go way out of their way to "defend" them to a fault.
And yes there are crazies on the dem side. you dont need to remind me. Nevertheless, with polls showing the country as a whole leans middle right (not all out right), republicans have an opportunity which they dont take advantage of because they want their silly crowd to stay put. whats funny is that crowd isnt going to run to dems so whats the big deal if you lose their vote but gain that same percentage of the minority block?
and one only need to see/hear the birth certificate "joke" romney made today to highlight what i said the other day.
one can go back and forth with me equating the joke to obama poking fun at romney's dog or some other nonsense. the point though is that the "fringe" element who believe the birther nonsense is fired up and reasonable republicans have to go out there "defending" the joke with ad hominem line of arguments to keep them happy.

Yes, the Bill of Rights ranks way below money. Taxes are why we fought WWII.
So well put. And, like I said earlier, the concept of liberty has been reduced to a talking point for the right wing.

Yeah. We don't need police, firemen, a military.......

No. Taxation relates to property. There is a much more important measure of liberty, the liberty of your own person. Slavery would be the ultimate attack on liberty.
