Life isn't fair.
I know first hand life isn't fair and I'm not mad. On the contrary... I'm just curious trying to find out what's the best way to reach someone to make sure this doesn't happen again to other people.
Someone suggested contacting a news investigator. If you are in DC you can contact ABC - 7, or CBS or NBC or FOX.
OP I do feel for you, having come to this country as an immigrant myself, I can understand your frustration. I know how it feels to be in a strange country with little to no support and also not knowing the culture and how to properly deal with things. Do not worry about all the negative non-sense you are getting, don't pay them any mind. If they ever found themselves in a foreign country dealing with problems they wouldn't be able to accomplish half of the things you have accomplished. Let them talk, do what you need to do whether it's writing a letter, contacting a news organization, etc. The best of luck to you and be proud of your accomplishments.
Thank you, thank you, thank YOU! You said it better than I would have said.
The dean in my new school sent the ISO an email saying she would contact the president if they didn't release my papers by the end of the day today and magically all the papers were faxed in a matter of minutes.
I have an appointment with her on Friday to talk about this issue. I think she wants to write a letter herself.
It's interesting to say the least... I came from a country where we learn that giving a seat to pregnant women, elderly and disabled people is an obligation, not a "nice gesture". There are special lines everywhere for moms with kids, pregnant women, disabled people and old folks. Here, if a pregnant woman asks for a seat she takes the risk of having someone yell at her that "it was her choice to get pregnant".
This is all very new to me and adaptation has been a very difficult process. I'm not the kind that gives up easily so here I am, trying to figure out my options. But I can't help but be in awe with some of the attitude people show around here and they have absolutely no shame.
No wonder why this place is what it is now...
