It's not the end of the world.

This sounds disgusting. As adventurous as my kids are with their eating, they still want to eat things that taste good. I push the more natural jam and whole wheat/grain bread but I've given up on the natural pb. They won't eat it and honestly I can understand why. I ate one of their sandwiches once, yuck.

really? and what would your "adventurous" eaters consider good food? As others have said, it all depends on what you are used to and my kids my husband and I find Jif, Skippy and whatever else horrible. There is a fake pb taste and bizarre mouth feel to brands like that. Most jam is way too sweet and I am scared to even ask what you consider good bread to be. I believe that food tastes best in its most simple form, and I am glad my kids do as well. We have never ordered food for my kids off of a kids menu-they eat what we eat. I am sure that what your kids find delicious mine would find repulsive and that is ok with me.

Well whoop dee fucking hoo, I'm glad you get such a kick out of yourself. DH and I cook food that we like, and the kids like it and eat it too. No big deal. We don't eat everything out of cans or packages, we buy fresh produce from the market and get bread from the bakery because you're right, most of the time it just tastes better. But you know what? There is a package of Oreos in our pantry right now, God forbid. I'm a strong believer in moderation and I will buy something junky every once in a while just because I can. DH and I don't split hairs about food because food is supposed to be enjoyable. For us it's about being together with family or friends, not whether or not every single thing my kid puts into his mouth is in its simplest form. I'm glad your kids will grow up to be pretentious food critics so mine don't have to. I hope you realize that this post makes you sound like an unbearable person.

Also, how old are your kids? 5? 7? If they make it into adolescence and you still feel this way, color me surprised.

Moderation is fine but processed food tastes like crap, sorry-if you like Oreos by all means eat them-again, they are quite nasty-that weird slimy waxy taste again. My three kids range in age from 4-9 and will be just fine. I never said I split hairs, but you don't seem to understand that there are people that don't like the taste of processed "food" and will not eat it, nor buy it. Moderation is a piece or two of good chocolate a day. Some real butter, real ice cream, cheese etc, but fake pb and Oreos? Maybe I should mention I was born overseas and was not raised on Oreos and other such "comfort" foods and have never found them appealing and so far my kids don't either. I understand that this may be difficult for you to process. Again, what do you call adventurous? What if I said if your kids make it to adolescence without a major sugar/carb addiction and are not overweight I would be surprised. How unbearable is that? I love that you call what we enjoy disgusting but fake food in "moderation" is acceptable. Please, go have a twinkie, but only 1!!

You just completely disregarded everything I said. Yes, my kids are addicted to sugar and carbs because sometimes they eat oreos. They are also all obese. No! My kids are 17, 14, and 11 and none of them are fat or sugar addicts. Do you realize that you jumped all over me and made personal attacks at me and my kids just because I said I didn't like peanut butter? Calm the fuck down. I'm really glad I had kids 15 years ago and didn't have to have people like you in my life.

wow. Maybe if I swore you would understand what I am saying? You didn't say you don't like pb, you said our choices were disgusting. So my point is, I think yours are too. We like what we are used to eating, and so you and I are on two entirely different ends of the spectrum.

We are also in love with Once Again PB.

You know, as much as one can be in love with peanut butter.

Try the Once Again American Classic brand. I am not normally a fan of natural PB, but this stuff is good!

DD has eaten pb&j (100% peanuts, all fruit jam, wheat bread) almost everyday since K and she is going into 5th grade. PB is one of the few proteins she will eat so it works for us.

Part of it is just a question of what you're used to. I've been eating nothing-but-peanuts PB for maybe 20 years now and everything else tastes gross - I want peanuts, not peanut-flavored frosting!
Part of it may also be not having tried the right kind. I don't like the really barely-ground chunky kind, only smooth, usually the TJ's organic. It does separate while stored at room temperature, but once I've opened a jar and stirred it up I keep it in the fridge anyway.
Argh, every time I open this thread it makes me crave peanut butter. Must... hold out... until breakfast...

Honestly I just don't like the taste of mashed up peanuts but I feel like I should because it's a good quick food. The sugary Skippy kind masks the taste but that's not peanut butter, that's dessert. I'd rather not eat PB at all so that solves it!

My dc's school has pb&j as an alternative to the hot meal, and I was feeling like a really bad Mom because it seemed as though he would have a peanut butter sandwich most days last year (he doesn't like jelly on his pb). Thank you for this thread -- I suddenly feel much better!
