Ha, my MIL and said that and I thought she was crazy. Once I paid attention realized she was pretty much right. I'd say 8 out of 10 that back in are black. What kills me is when people back up in a spot they could pull through. Often they are also the same people that hold up the line waiting for a car to leave a spot so they can be 2 spaces closer.

That being said, when you are driving a Suburban, you are usually also hyper aware of where your blind spots are as you back up -- but others walking or driving by seem to have no clue of the danger of just strolling behind one these cars when they have their reverse lights on. Best rule of thumb always walk IN FRONt of a large vehicle in a parking lot, never behind! Your could easily be in a blind spot and have a trajedy. I drive one and really, really try to be overly cautious and passive even, as I drive in town--I am continually amazed though at how many people just casually walk behind my giant vehicle as I'm backing up!
Of course your need to have a giant vehicle is also a mystery to me.
I have five children. I own a Honda Pilot. Is that okay with you?

Also, back in parkers are notoriously bad for not parking in properly (between the lines), and when a person parks in front first the rearview mirrirs are in the way. I moved to a new neighbrohood and EVERYONE backs in. WHY?????
Because they want to... why do you care?
Because being forced to watch someone do this unnecessarily delays me. It's rude and obnoxious. My time is much more important than theirs, so who the fuck are they to make me wait?

But it's not. I always park WAYYYY faster than any of the people to back in. The spots are fairly small and they have to keep correcting themselves. From what I can tell there is absolutely nothing to be gained from this.
