The combined GDP of Latin America and Spain accounts for around 10% of global GDP so, while not China (around 12%), speaking Spanish is and will remain a significant professional advantage. Add to that the growing Latino population, and the argument becomes pretty self-evident.

(I know, they speak Portuguese in Brazil, but approaching business there in Spanish if often better than in English)

I've met someone who works for a prominent technology company in the area, specializing in acquisitions of companies from other countries, and she really wishes that she knew Spanish so she wouldn't always need to use translators to conduct business with companies in Latin America.

To OP's question, I would say that not all Spanish immersion programs are equal. If you are exploring this option, I would recommend visiting/touring the specific locations where the program is offered. Our DC got into one through the lottery. We were all for it, until we visited the school and met the principal....and we're so not impressed. But I have friends with kids in Spanish immersion at different schools who are very happy.

Immersion Programs are a must if we want to educate children for the future. as the min promoters of a global economy we can't continue raising people like the sample individual from previous posts.
