I'm a life long VA resident, and I've barely heard of the school. You would think a school that's so selective would have decent name recognition. Can anyone not originally from VA offer any insight as to how it's regarded?
No, it does not. Never heard of this one. Different applicant pool, selectivity is misleading.

Yes, they probably would have used that rather than points like W&L far outranks Davidson for ROI and graduate earnings.
+1 W&L is like UVA. Davidson is like W&M.

Acceptance rate is not selectivity. Uof R is a well regarded school, but they accept a slightly lower tier of student, comparing within high schools for relevance, than UVA and WM, as far as scores, course rigor. UofR is slightly less selective than W&L, but W&L often takes students who do not get into UVA , so it is not too competitive either. Davidson/Wellesley/Bowdoin are more well regRded and more selective than UofR and W&L, yet that group is a notch under the top5 LACs. UofR is considered like a Colby in the Northeast: good school but not close to elite.
Davidson is in no way more selective or well regarded than W&L.
It is from our area: NY/NJ top privates send higher tier of kids to Davidson, lots of overlap w Bowdoin admits.. W&L is more like a Colby.
W&L is higher than Davidson for all stat comparison points. W&L ACT Composite is 35/34/33 for 75th/50th/25th. Davidson is 34/32/21. SAT M + V (since Davidson does not provide SAT Composite) is 1530/1490/1410 for W&L and 1510/1455/1360 for Davidson. For Top 10% of class, it is 81.4% for W&L and 68% for Davidson.
W&L is the top private school for wealthy old money southerners.
You are trying to distract from the fact that it has higher stats than Davidson.
