Plenty of engineers come out of Ivy's, lots of other degrees too.
News to me. Really. When I went to school, Ivys didn't have engineering, which is the opposite of a liberal arts degree.

Really? The Ivy's have the best financial aid in the country. Many students who graduate debt free from Harvard, were offered packages at state schools, especially out of state schools that people are suggesting, with significant loans. I'm having trouble seeing Harvard as the stupid choice in that situation.

I know a Christopher Newport kid who got 100% financial aid and nothing from VT. Well, that kid is going to CNU even though objectively (based on US News rankings), you think he should go to VT. For his family, CNU is the best and obvious choice.

I called NC State and WVU shitty, but I was also the one suggesting those-type schools over decent regional schools nobody has ever heard of. I sent my nephew to WVU over schools like Frostburg, UMBC or Salisbury, and I think it was a fantastic choice.

CNU has a really dynamic president right now who is doing a lot to court upper middle class families . He is a Washington and Lee alum and if you've been to visit both campuses, you will see that he is remaking CNU to look like W&L. Right now, it is still something of a no name school, but Elon was no name 15 years ago and has become more an more popular in the northeast and mid Atlantic becaue of active marketing and courting of that population. I suspect CNU will have a similar trajectory.

There are over 2,000 not-for-profit 4 year colleges in this country. Seems like the three you mention are all in the top 10%.

My experience is that your work experience is what counts. At my work someone with a masters degree had his resume tossed in the trash because he could not answer technical questions satisfactorily

Yes, as well as that people here are arrogant when they make negative comments about schools that they have heard of, based on incomplete information.
WVU is probably a good example. Average GPA/SAT scores there aren't very high, so DCUM types have little good to say about it. But part of the reason why the scores aren't high is that the state legislature has insisted that the school open its doors to less polished and disadvantaged students who still want a college education. It doesn't mean that there aren't some excellent opportunities there for motivated students.
