I know this thread is 6 months old now, but as a Janney parent, I just had to post this in case it helps prospective families out there... all the talk of overcrowding doesn't really make sense. the school is over capacity, but that does not mean the classrooms are over crowded. My DC K class has 22 students in it and two full time teachers. Plus there are dedicated teachers for art, music, science, and all the amazing after school activities. Nearby Woodacres in Bethesda, eg, has K classes of 28 students, with one teacher in it. (and no after school enrichment classes). According to what private school paeents posted in this thread, Janney's ratios are the same as private. Even though janney is supposed to grow even more next year, our awesome principal has a great plan for fitting everyone in and the ratios will still be good. No portables and no eating up our outdoor playspace of three playgrounds, Best New School Garden, or new turf field.

Except Janney, Key and Mann are autonomous, which means the principals have control over the curriculum. And none of these schools have title 1 status, so most of the DCPS budget changes (such as what is happening with aftercare) don't effect them.
Murch is also autonomous.

Except Janney, Key and Mann are autonomous, which means the principals have control over the curriculum. And none of these schools have title 1 status, so most of the DCPS budget changes (such as what is happening with aftercare) don't effect them.

Lafayette has gone way down hill in the last 4/5 years. Academics are poor, serious behavioural issues an over 700 kids enrolled at a school meant for 500 max.

They're all great and they're all overcrowded - Janney more so because of all the AU Park rental houses targeted by families with ES-aged kids.
Facilities are nice, teachers are good, budget is underfunded (hence the PTA fees/kid like other NW DC schools). Still have to worry about DC School Board making changes to curriculum, budget or resources (which focus mainly on troubled schools).
They also all have fun, walkable communities and parks. But only one has the red line stop!
