Um, the slave days/practices are what created the "culture" you currently speak of. I agree that bad culture breeds bad culture, as ignorance breeds ignorance... look at you.

My principal was caught cursing a blue streak. Her car was vandalized for the umpteenth time this school year.

Um, the children I see are rocking some fake-ass, self-hating stuff on their heads and bodies.

I, the AA who criticized some of our youth, should really criticize the adults who spend money on this nonsense and allow our beautiful black children to present themselves in public with faux hair and worse.

When will we expect ALL of our children to:

*Dress appropriately in public (no exposed underwear, cleavage or belly buttons)
*Just say no to the body art that can't be covered by conventional clothing (really just no to all body art for me)
*Not curse at each other and call each other vulgar names
*Go to school every day, on time

I am all for children having fun, going to the store for a snack after school, then on to the rec ctr to hang with friends, etc. It pains me, however, to avoid certain playgrounds or to travel across town so that my young children can play without be exposed to certain language and behavior.

I have worked with many young people from impoverished backgrounds and otherwise over the years and I know that a lot of this nonsense is posturing. When confronted about their unsuitable behavior or unfortunate choices, most are embarrassed.

C'mon on now, fake hair doesn't make you some type of street hood. Why hell, FLOTUS is known to have a weave added for that much needed style. So, whoever wrote this is clearly of the other persuasion.

Way to go, 11:17! I concur with you. Really, is it too much to ask? And I can't believe some PPs try to assert cursing as the new wave of culture or that's the trend, or how we were all juvenile once too so who are we to criticize? kind of attitude. Sure, cursing doesn't make one a criminal in the future or sets you on the path to having only a minimum wage job. Perhaps you will turn out just fine even if you curse all you want in your youth. Nonetheless, cursing in public is offensive to many others. Saggy pants showing his underwear is offensive to others. I think setting a high expectation tends to improve our lives and the society rather than having a low expectation.
