Interesting the relative lack of metal/hard rock/hair bands, and the overrepresentation of whiny British and similar US bands. I attribute this to the likely gender demographics of DCUM - but maybe it's just that my taste in music was/is as horrific as my wife claims.
BTW, PP with the long list - you did have some good stuff in there, but you lost all credibility with We Built This City, which is likely the worst song ever.

Dont know that these define it but I did go to the 80's Regeneration Tour a couple of years ago that included 3 of these groups. Naked Eyes, Flock of Seagulls, Human League plus ABC and Belinda Carlisle. ABC was the best of the lot although Human League was also great and had the most original members (I think Naked Eyes and the Flock had only one original member).

While we are on the subject, I have always unconsciously recognized that certain 80s songs belong to a a short that I think defines 80s new wave. I've never been able to figure out why I consider some songs to be part of this list and other songs (that I like better) not to be on the list. Here's the list, what do people think?

So many (loved the Furs/Police/English Beat etc) but Frankie Goes to Hollywood "Relax" - reminds me of many a late night/early morning at these massive nightclubs in Madrid. Also, Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel which they played on the awesome sound systems of said nightclubs.

Other than Jackson related talent, no one has mentioned New Order or Ocean Blue or any of the early techno bands. The scary thing is I knew and loved so many of the ones already on this list, from the DKs to Whitney. I think I have the world's weirdest taste in music.
