Maybe because the HR office that generates those reminder emails isn't actually involved in hiring decisions?

Yea I never dealt with anyone from HR, 1st interview was with a staff, a manager, and director...second interview was with a regional director. This was for an examiner position. I called the director and sent an email. I dont think I got the position but some status is always appreciated so I can move on.

Really, what the point of posting then. It was only open from 8/7/13 to 9/30/13. If you didn't apply on the first day, you weren't considered?

That's almost a two month time span. If you applied before the last day or two, you were considered. The hiring process is moving much faster these days. Because of the budget issues they needed to make offers by 9/30.

Who did you call? HR is pretty worthless. I assume you got business cards/contact information for the people you interviewed with right? Try calling them, if they liked you hopefully they'll try to push to get you an answer, even if it ends up being no.

OP I have never received a rejection letter from any government agency or department that I've applied to....
