It takes us 10-15 mins to mow our lawn in Bethesda. How long can it possibly take to mow one of those tiny AU park lots? It's not like the neighbor is disrupting the entire morning.

Well, let's see, obviously 12-1 and 6-7:30 are out, since some like to dine al fresco in nice weather (or even eat with their windows open). Then there are those who like to have happy hour on the deck, so 4:30-6 are out. And lots of kids nap, so 1-3 is unacceptable. And of course, there are lots of kids who still have 2 naps, so 10-11:30 we simply MUST have quiet. We've already established that before 10 is too early.
So . . . looks like acceptable lawnmowing times on the weekend in OP's neighborhood are 10-12 and 1:30-4:30. Of course, if she happens to leave the house, the neighbors should use that time to mow. In fact, OP, you should tell them your weekend schedule, and ask them to confine lawn maintenance to the times that you leave the house.
By the way, I think people bitching about others mowing during kids' naptimes are unreasonable - but that's a LOT more defensible than OP's silliness.
OP should post her schedule on the neighborhood listserv. All lawnmowers, leafblowers, dogs, children, skateboards, motorcycles, trucks, and emergency personal should steer clear during the times that she dictates!

I had a neighbor in a neighborhood I lived in on the west coast several years ago who routinely mowed at 6-7 am, including Xmas morning. Now THAT sucked!

She isn't just "starting her day" She's blasting a 100db gas lawn mower and devastating the beautiful quiet of our neighborhood at that hour--really there are barely any cars about at that time here--the roar was ear-shattering. Whatever. Screw you guys.

DCUM selfish louts on this thread hardly represent the majority opinion in the community--just the loudest and most persistent. Of course my neighbor can carry on with her daily activities--as long as it doesn't infringe on mine at that time of the morning. And of course, as I have said repeatedly, she has the right to do it. There is a difference between rights and courtesy--but I can see my point is lost on you because people should do whatever they like no matter who it disturbs as long as its legal, right? I'm glad I don't have to live near you.

Some people live efficient lives, especially older folks who get up with the sun. They really don't sleep until 9am. Actually, your sock puppeting response suggests you are hardly efficient, but rather obsessed with making your selfish point. I'm a devoted gardener who is caring for an ailing parent. There is nothing lazy about me. I actually enjoy yard work, and planting. But your post shows you to be a mean spirited, selfish jerk, for sure. You don't care about lawn maintenance, you just like to torture others with noise.

It's not the lawn mowers I mind so much. It's these lawn services that use leaf blowers throughout the year. Lately it's been to blow every speck of dust, pollen, etc. from my neighbor's walk. Twice a week! It's noisy as heck and puts even more dust and pollen into the air. Did they ever hear of a broom?!

We used to have neighbors who rang really loud bells at 9am every Sunday. And again at 11. Some kind of community group, I think?
