I wouldn't just hand out the dough willy-nilly, but I would pay off my immediate family's house notes and ensure that all of my neices and nephews had their college tuition paid.

I would be scared to win this kind of money. I saw an HBO special on folks that win these types of amounts. Their friends ended up resenting them. No matter how much money they gave their families, the family always felt they deserved more. A pediatric nurse who won tried to keep her job cause she loved it. Her co-workers (who were previously good friends) made her life miserable. Cant I just win.....10 million and keep it out of the media.

I can't even get my head around that amount of money. I would have to hire someone to advise me on how to manage it, because I wouldn't have the first idea. I'd give a lot of it to a local nonprofit that my friend runs...at least 10 million. My house would be phenomenally well decorated, but I'd keep the one we're in. We'd buy a vacation home somewhere near water and a boat, and pay someone well to maintain it while we weren't there. I'd hire a staff--house manager (to grocery shop, plan meals, keep track of and pay bills, all the mundane things I'd never do again), full time housekeeper, chef, and lawn person. I would not continue to work--I work to live, and if I didn't have to, I wouldn't, not another day in my life. I'd volunteer a lot (see the nonprofit I mentioned above) and find several other local charities to contribute to-places with low overheads where I knew the money would go directly into the hands of people who needed it. I am torn about how much I'd give to family members, because of the expectations that might come with that, as several PPs have mentioned. I would pay off the homes of my parents, my inlwas, and our siblings, but that might be it. If I did give a lump sum, I would make it explicitly clear that it was a one-time lump sum and that they should invest it properly.

Collect the money through the trust and never tell a soul. I'd keep my cush non-profit gig for appearances.

I might tell DH that I got a "raise" at the office to justify my little splurges here and there.

It's currently at 467 Million dollars and I am sure that number will go up with all the people lining up to get tickets.

I would collect my winnings through a trust (Maryland lets you) and only let a few select people in on my secret. My parents, in-laws and a few other family members. DH doesn't want his brother to ever find out so we would have his parents sign a disclosure agreement before telling them and giving them money.

I would set up a charity through my hometown. It's an economically depressed area with lots of single mothers so my charity would set up housing and schooling for them in exchange for their staying and working in the community for x amount of years. I would also back local business and create a community center that makes everyone feel welcome. I would also make sure there are substance abuse counselors there.

I would buy a summer camp and lend it out to the Church for clergy retreats, summer camps for the disadvantaged, and marriage retreats. I already have one in mind out of state. It was a CYO camp for years but the Church couldn't afford to keep it running. It would be unavailable one specific week during the summer/fall for a family reunion.

I would buy the beautiful house next door to my sister as a vacation home and hire her as our caretaker.

I would have my house remodeled and then buy a new car, maybe, mine is only 6 years old with just 50k miles. At the very least I would repaint the car.

I would never tell my children I had won so they won't expect the world.
