I always wonder on Property Brothers whether people actually know which show they are on beforehand. They always seem so angry about the dream home they can't afford.
You should browse the Television Without Pity forums. The "contractor" brother is apparently a magician, and one or both were underwear models. I don't think I can believe anything I see on HGTV anymore.
Yes, the contractor brother is a magician. He also is a licensed contractor and has built houses. So what? Both have admitted in interviews that they were working in the entertainment business and sold real estate and did contracting work while trying to "make it" in the entertainment business. How many actors/entertainers do you know that DIDN'T do other work on the way up? But, they are both legit with their real estate licenses and the one with the contracting license. I've known very few people in the entertainment industry who didn't have multiple jobs before landing a significant gig.
And many of the contractors and builders on these home improvement shows have worked in the entertainment industry. For example, check out the web-site for Greg Plitt, who has been one of the contractors on Designed to Sell. Check out the background of Carter Oosterhouse of Red Hot and Green and Carter Can. And that one carpenter on Rate My Space.
