You keep up with the times too -- a lot of us white folks already know that and don't need a lesson on it. In fact, your lecture suggests you're still a bit hung up on race and feel you need to help us whiteys out.

By quoting the numbers you have shown me, you have provided me what you consider a comfortable level. A double-digit minority, that is a bonanza in a predominant AA student body. Congrats. As whites will recruit whites to successful schools within DCPS. Plainly put the JKLM movement is AA PTSA lead in certain cases but will always be white manipulated and extorted.
Currently the double digit minority has established a mafia mentality of keeping the classes of people separate. I must say when you all are wickedly conniving then you all are phenomenal at being undetected.
What?

But, granted, perhaps I should have said that, apparently, a few African-American residents still talk about this. Or that some people in the media believe that African-American residents believe this. At any rate, it's a real concept. Read on, pp:Anonymous wrote:"And that's giving DCPS entirely too much credit! African-American residents still talk about "The Plan" for white people to take back the city. Now white residents can have their own version of "The Plan"!
But really, what is so strange about this? Increased demand will lead to increased supply. At least that seems to be how it has worked on the Hill, where the middle class now want to get into schools that were entirely dominated by the poor just a few years ago. Don't be waitin' for DCPS to beg you to come to these schools. You will wait a long time. "[/u]
To the person who wrote this, are you retarded? I have been black along time and live in the city. I have NEVER heard anyone say this!

It appears that Lillian Wiggins, a columnist for the Washington Afro American newspaper, was the first to articulate the conspiracy theory. In 1979, she wrote: "Many residents believe that the Marion Barry era may be the last time Washington will have a black mayor. If negative programming and characterization of black leadership are allowed to continue in the city of Washington and especially the black community, there is a strong possibility of the 'master plan' which I have so often spoken about maturing in the 1980s." As with many conspiracy theories, The Plan has some foundation in reality: believers note that the Federal City Council, an organized group of civic and corporate leaders, mostly white, meets in secret and uses its power to influence the city's direction.[1]

Hey, educated person, try reading what I said. I didn't say they deserved sympathy. I was responding to the argument made above that we are moving to a class-based society, which I took to mean that prejudice is now based on class more than it's based on race. There has always been class prejudice in this country but race-based prejudice hasn't gone away, it's just become more subtle. And yes, I think some white people living in DC forget that racism is still out there because they live in a minority-white city and they're not recognizing that prejudice is alive and well (even within themselves). But I also think there is a segment of white people living in the District who are still blatantly prejudiced and that it goes beyond class. (I see it in supposedly liberal Capitol Hill all the time) And I'm absolutely certain there are plenty of whites around the country who hold race-based prejudice that has nothing to do with class whatsoever.
I know there is a regular DCUM poster who emphasizes class prejudice over racial prejudice and I think she has a point but I think she is wrong in the assumption (if I read her correctly) that class prejudice has now eclipsed racial prejudice. And yeah, I don't think she realizes how scared some white people still are of black people. It's a baseless fear born out of prejudice and refusal to recognize their own white privilege but it's a fear nevertheless. And calling it fear doesn't mean it should be accommodated. It should never accommodated. But how about you try reading more carefully before jumping in to call someone a jackass?

I don't think you realize how scared white people still are of black people. It's easy to forget in a city where whites have long been in the minority but in most of the country (and among some people in this city) this is still true. Racism against blacks is exacerbated by class divisions but it goes beyond class in a persistent way.
Oh my lord, you must be a troll.
"I don't think you realize how scared white people still are of black people" - you can't be serious. Are these the same white people who moved into DC knowing it's a majority black city? Because if that's the case, those are some really stupid white people you hang with. I might believe it out in the far-flung suburbs, but anyone who moves into DC and starts admonishing a well-spoken, clearly educated AA woman that she needs to realize (and what next? accommodate? have sympathy for?) "how scared white people still are" is just a jackass. There's really no better word, with the exception of mouth-breathing moron (oops, that's two words).
