Re: Komi. I used to work half a block away and my boss dined there often. I never had a problem calling and getting a reservation for the same day (always a weeknight, tho). This was 2 or 3 years ago so it might be different now, but you may have some luck with same day reservations!

I am the OP, and I don't really mind if this thread stands to advise others. Where we're going, there's no Five Guys - and I would be sad if we had missed it here. But I am looking forward to In-N-Out on the way there!

We wanted to go to Komi but it doesn't look like it will happen as our move is going to be before Christmas (not what we were expecting), but this is a great list, and even (especially) the casual places are recommended since most of our belongings will be on their way next week, before we move, so we'll be eating out a lot.

As far as Komi is concerned, unless the OP isn't leaving for the next six to eight months, they aren't going to be able to get reservations anyway. Also curious about the posting of chain restaurants-unless the chain is exclusive to the DC area ( which would not include Chipotle, Chickfil-A, Five Guys, etc). Quality non-withstanding, wouldn't these be places the OP could visit in their new location?
