Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If you think that, your an idot. So when they fight for more money and the prices go up who ultimately pays for it.

I don't think we should have to tip, but I do tip $5. I have no stairs. I regret it almost every time though as my groceries are, on average 2 hours late. Maybe I will stop tipping on the card and only tip when they are delivered within the window.

Reading all this is very intriguing. Its interesting how we as humans justify our social beliefs, an try an understand them when no one knows what there talking about. Or where it originated.

I think before this thread started the question should be asked.

Why do we tip?

Until we understand that question can we truly answer this threads question.

It seems the assumption is payVSlabor.

How much someone makes justifies whether they deserve a tip. Vs how hard a person needs to work for you to justify opening your wallet.

But is it that simple....

I would love for this topic of "why we tip" to be discussed on a grander scale.

Cause think about it.

Everyone has accepted the idea of a waiter or waitress making tips because of there "salary".
Now vs that with labor.

I read people stating that drivers "dont shop the groceries".

Well waiters/waitresses dont cook your food. (The only reason you go to a restaurant)
Sometimes they dont even deliever it to the table.
But we base our tip on there service. (Labor)
Did they bring napkins.
Were they kind.
Did they come back to the table the appropriate amount of times.
Did they bring the check accordingly.
The irony being.
Usually they split a small percentage of there tips with there bus boy. (I bussed tables)
Soo if they provide terrible service that ends up hurting everyone.
Soo now you kind of got to look at it on a larger scale. But then again your assuming all restaurants are equal an have the same mechanics, an they dont!

And to end this example.
With another quote
"If the driver does 8 stops a day".
How many tables do you think your waiter tends too?
At a high end restaurant they may not only make a higher salary.
But there food costs more.
With that 10-15-20% theme that equates to a much more lucrative salary then most would assume.
So after an 8 hour shift of doing multiple tables at once I can promise you there making more then me or most drivers or maybe you the reader.
But... We all still tip.
Thats not even comparing them to bartenders.
Which if you want too do laborVSsalary its crazy considering they stay within a rectangle or square an lift no more then a few lbs an mingle.
And are getting hundreds of tips small an large thoughout the night.

The point im trying to make is.
This topic is silly.
The question is fare.

You never wanna be the person over tipping.
Or being taken advantage of.
And thats understandable.
But clearly if your someone who doesn't want to tip for what ever reason that is. Please dont try justifying it with silly reasoning.
If anything help the driver. Justify it with your own actions.

Im still going to hold the door for them. Im still going to grab somthing from there hands if they are over loaded.
Once you stop thinking equally of people because you feel there financial situation merits they be treated differently (usually negatively) then your only degrading the evolution of our species an our social growth.
That last part can we worded all kinds of ways an provide a very similar theme.

No tip. I am a delivery driver and what I get paid is it. If pea pod cared about employees they would pay more. Instead they give no pay and leave it to the customer to add to the drovers salary.

You suck. They were at my house for five minutes. What would possess you to believe they work harder than a server? You obviously have never worked in a restaurant.

Big order, frozen stuff, fragile stuff...yeah, I tip some. I always give cash. Putting it on the bill just makes it difficult for the driver.

A $5 bill seems about right. less than that is cheap. better zero than using singles. Sounds like they should be paid more anyway, honestly. When their back gets messed up I bet Peapod wants nothing to do with it.

My family's on a tight budget, I'm the only income (dad here) for wife and 3 kids. Its shocking how nothing is left over on $130,000 per year income. Anyone in my situation knows the deal. But I still tip where its right. Gotta take care of people where you can. Cause a lot are getting by on a lot less.

its refreshing that you are appreciative of something vs. nothing. and that you understnad a tip is optional. i've been using peapod for over 5 years and i tip (not always handsomely) but i tip and offer water especially with the summers we have around here.

Understand that tipping is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. It's your choice to tip or not to. Tip what you find necessary. I'm happy when a customer gives me 2$, Any amount is more then i started with.

I am looking at this because I never thought about tipping the delivery person for peapod, until someone asked me about what i tipped.
I have read 20% - noway - if the 10.00 an hour is a true salary - then maybe they shouldn't be tipped.
The reason we tip is because the worker is paid below the minimum wage and the tip is to increase their salary to minimum plus.
And the thought they do heavy work so does many others - CNA's, factory workers, garbage men etc and if it comes down to because they do a service for us so do some of the jobs i mentioned above.
I will tip the next time mostlikely the 5-10 dollars depending on how large my order is

my gf works for peapod and this so called union u think gets these workers alot of money?(just means she pays them 2hours of her salary every week for really doing nothing)or not she only makes 10.00 hr drives and as jobs are scarce n u take what u can get she drives an hour each way (paying tolls both way)2/from work and after taxes might as well work for minimum wage so receiving a tip for carrying 5-10 bags of groceries of 2-3-5 flights of steps or bringing the groceries into someones kitchen even sometimes assisting the elderly in helping them put them away...is a nice appreciative gesture considering 10hr doesnt go along away in 2014's economy.Waiters and waitresses make 3.25 n hour..so they reply on tips for servicing customers as well..pizza delivery drivers..make minimum wage while in the building assisting with making orders and just 3hr while on the road delivering..in rain snow sleet/traffic--making less than minimum wage...and im sure everyone knows the price of gas and wear n tear on ones vehicle is not cheap.my parents raised us to be respectful of these types of service positions and to always tip 20% if not more depending on quality of service... bc these people DO do a lot of work providing customers a service that many people would not even want to do bc the pay is so low n what they make does depend on the respectful generous courteousness of others to appreciate this persons job work and value as a person trying to just make ends meet. and i know many salon shampoo workers who just make tips the customer gives them n just 10%from the hair stylist they work for...and for the record..papa johns, pizza hut, and dominoes all pay their employess minimum wage while IN the store geting their delvieries ready...on the road is 3.00 per hour hoping customers will appreciate someone used their own vehicle and gas n traveled however far to provide them a service of convenience n appreciate it...its a shame when a pizza delivery person delivers someone 50.79 cents worth of food and the customer not only tips but want that .21 cents in change how pathetic and ignorant is that...if u don't want to tip your server at a restaurant...u should stay at home ans serve yourself n if u cant tip ur food delivery person a few bucks for gas and wear n tear on his vehicle...then go pic it up yourself...stingy selfish inconsiderate cheap people in this world i feel bad for my friends who deal with people like this in their profession but they enjoy the nature of their job and the ones that do appreciate what they do make it worth it to them..u think these service people are rich or wealthy doing this type of work? wow pretty ignorant n pathetic excuse for just not wanting to tip someone for providing you a courtesy n convenience u obviously didnt want to do yourself...educate yourself on the reality of life before u go passing judgement and spreading misinformation.

although I am scheduled 2-10 thats not how it works. IF I have to drive 30 miles (45 mins) to my 1st stop I have to leave at 1PM to get to your house around 2. Then by the end of the night and $4500 in groceries later, I have to drive home 45 mins in the work truck. you got your delivery at 945 so i get to the store around 1030. Now I have to unload all the empty totes, ice packs, and dry ice.
Followed by some paperwork.
I clock out at 11.

mornings usually are 5am-4pm even though im scheduled 6-2.

I worked very hard to keep your eggs from breaking, and I always separate your cold item from the rest.

I get paid shit and really do appreciate every tip I make.

$5 is what I shoot for minimum, but I wouldn't survive without the occasional $10 or $20.

The rich ppl dont tip a dime, but the poeple on welfare always tip best and I will always take the extra step for them.

("heres your sun morn newspaper", or "let me take out your garbage bc its raining")
