Obviously, most people don't fall into this camp -- or at least recognize the humor in this fantasy -- but, yes, absolutely there are parents like that at Sidwell. It's simply an extension of the idea that if you send your kids to Sidwell, or any other marquee-name school, they -- and you -- will make contacts that will lead them down the yellow-brick road to fame and success. Personally, this kind of social-climbing makes me gag, but Sidwell is hardly the only institution that harbors folks who think along these lines.

4. Lots of apps and thus rejections. We all want what is hard-to-get (e.g., Bill Gates trying to join Augusta National Golf Club).
5. Some of this perceived fenzy appears to be just a few people churning posts.
We are a proud Cathedral family but recognize the excellence of Sidwell, seen in our adult friends who are alums and in current students we know. It is not a perfect place and not every kid is a genius, but the same can be saidmof Harvard, Yale, Stanford.
This in and of itself would keep me out in my trashy, tacky, conservative exurb cocoon. Who f**ing cares?????
I just had to respond. I was trying to ellicit comments! I actually am interested in the psychology of people who fawn over those in position of power. Using their children to gain access to these people. EEWWW! My MIL taught in a DC private school and the stories of people sucking up were hilarious.
