This is America. There's a wannabe entrepreneur around very corner and in every zip code. Hey, if your kids got soccer skills in bare feet, sans your fancy travel soccer leagues, I assure you he will rise to the top quickly. Soccer scouts can spot talent in a backyard.



this is probably due to the (un)popularity of the sport. if/when the player pool reaches a critical mass i'd think they'd stop scouting rec leagues fairly quickly.

I wish travel soccer was like this. But the coaches' fees, the mandatory trips out of state, all add up. And I doubt the recruiters are stalking those inexpensive rec leagues....


This is America. There's a wannabe entrepreneur around very corner and in every zip code. Hey, if your kids got soccer skills in bare feet, sans your fancy travel soccer leagues, I assure you he will rise to the top quickly. Soccer scouts can spot talent in a backyard.

I wish travel soccer was like this. But the coaches' fees, the mandatory trips out of state, all add up. And I doubt the recruiters are stalking those inexpensive rec leagues....

Affordable, indeed.

One doesn't need 100 football players, a dozen coaches, multiple Greyhound buses just to transport the equipment, a home Stadium with functioning lights just to field a team.

A team of less than a score, a dirt pitch, a T-shirt and shorts will suffice. The playing field is trully level and bare-footed talent can win the day.

Check out the many Calverton Club teams in NCSL. Some are majority Hispanic and the coaching is done in Spanish (DC tried out for one of them).
