First- if you're keeping him home for every cough, are you sure you're not overreacting based on his history? Obviously that's not an answer with the stomach issues, but I would consider it for some of the lesser things.

The stomach issues could be food or environmental rather than illness. Are you having tests done each time to confirm bacterial or viral infection? If not, I'd look hard at the other possibilities.

If you're sure it's all illness, I'd talk to your doctor about possible immune issues. Not being able to fight off routine bugs at this point is concerning.

My kids did not go to daycare (did attend preschool). They were sick fairly often the first few years of school, but never anything close to this.

If he gets sick too often, consider asking for referrals to infectious disease doctor , he may have some type of immune deficiency.

He needs to wear a mask at school.

This sounds so rough, OP. You've gotten some good advice. One more suggestion: stress the importance of hand washing and not sharing food/beverages with friends.

Show your child -- again, I'm sure -- how to wash and dry his hands. Switch out the bathroom towels for the disposable hand towels. Wipe the sinks, toilets, counters down with lysol or a clorox wipe every day.

If your child takes a water bottle to school, stress that is is his alone. He can't share it or use anyone else's. Run the water bottle through the dishwasher each night, lid, straw and all. (They may not last as long, but I'd rather buy new water bottles every few months than have my kid sick and miss work.)

Does he have a lovey of some sort? Wash it regularly. Same with his pillow and comforter.

Hopefully summer is easier on you all and you can get to the bottom of these issues.

This is definitely normal for a kid that didn't go to daycare. That said, our kids go to school sick.

40+ days of absence is not normal. Does your doctor really know that your child is absent that many days? If they know, and still are saying kids just get sick between September and May, then you should find a new doctor.

My doctor told me that unless my child has an active fever or is truly unable to move/vomiting, etc., to send them into school 24 hours after the fever was treated with Tylenol/advil, or as soon as the vomiting has stopped and they can move again.

If your child is feverish or at the point they can't function for 40+ days in a school year your child should be screened for an immune disorder. I would take them to a children's hospital.
