Clearly you don't get out much. Gel X manicures are extremely popular and $$ right now. No, they don't all have to look fake or flashy either. Most of the women I know get them done every 2-3 weeks and have that perfectly effortless look to them.

I never get my nails done because I think it's not great in terms of hygiene, and the cost and frequency is ridiculous, but you CAN have great nails (whatever that means to you) at home if you get the proper tools and good polish and get into a good routine.

I do builder gel in a neutral light pink once every 4 weeks. It doesn’t chip or crack. Incredibly low maintenance and I’m still very hard on my nails like using them to scrape off stuff or whatever and the builder gel has never failed me. $75 each application.
