Some of us prefer to buy for functionality vice name brand. I am very specific about what I want in a handbag (pockets in the right place, type of leather, etc.). I despise pebbled leather and coated canvas, which is what most handbags seem to be made of. I prefer soft, supple leather and I like to have pockets for my things. I will not shell out thousands of dollars for an LV coated canvas bag with no pockets.

I seriously doubt you cannot find a single brand of a luxury handbag that has the features you are looking for. Across many brands and their many models made with diff materials. LV isn't the only brand.

Unless we are talking about exclusive Birkins or that level of cost, purchasing a luxury handbag isn't a huge flex and doesn't make you look "rich" IMHO. True, it's an upper middle class status symbol and aspirational for middle and lower middle classes as there isn't a lot of disposable income to spare for anything like this. But for a lot of people who live in your avg nice suburban home in DMV or similar HCOLA and make professional income with some disposable income, buying a luxury bag once every few years isn't a big deal. I know people who are obsessed with collecting them and that's not great unless you are rich, and I also know people who have more than enough money to afford a bag costing a few grand, but complain how it's such a silly waste of money while longing to have one. It's all mental. Financially, having a few luxury items (since they aren't purchased yearly) is a norm for upper middle class.

Horse shows! Some of the boot makers make bags, too.

When we travel to my parents' home country to visit family I get jewelry and bags from there. I like to support artisans when I can.

I have generally found anyone using the term new money typically did nothing but inherit wealth.

NW of $8 million +. I have a Chanel I inherited from MIL (not my style, don’t use it) some Dior bags I bought in college (they have really stood the test of time) when I worked in a Dior store, and some simple Coach bags (no logos). Everything else are bags I bought in Italy or Argentina (no logos, good leather). I don’t like brand logos on anything ever and bags don’t really interest me. I buy them only for utilitarian reasons.

Just set a budget, find a bag you like within it, and use that bag until you get tired of it or it falls apart . . . and FWIW, there are luxury bags with crap quality (hello, Christian Dior!), so don't assume that price and quality are commensurate.

There are a few brands that I like that aren't "luxury" but are fashion-forward, functional, and decently constructed: Mansur Gavriel, Loeffler Randall, Dragon Diffusion, Staud, and Hunting Season. Sezane also has nice bags, although the quality can be iffy. I also find that Anthro is the best place to find relatively inexpensive bags if you want something more trendy or whimsical but don't want to break the bank.

I will confess that my everyday workhorse bag is a Goyard tote. I know it's "basic," but it's lightweight, takes a beating, is impervious to rain, and holds a ton of stuff. I fitted it with a felt insert I bought from Etsy, so it's easy to organize, too.

nw $25m. I abhor labels and recognizable branding. I buy handmade leather when traveling, usually Italy.

NW 5m and I rotate between 6 Clare V bags of different colors and sizes. I like how I can switch the straps and I like the look and quality. They cost $300-$500 but mine are from sample sales and ebay. I have an LV from my grandmother that is just a sentimental item in my closet

They obviously go to Target and buy a $20 bag and carry it around for 6 months until the pleather starts peeling and flaking off.
