As far as academics are concerned, I don’t care how it’s ranked compared to Duke—it’s a peer school without question. And get real, it’s definitely better than Emory.

You saying it needs proof. Which you obviously dont have. Emory is better for anything health and business
Emorys global ranking is 69, Rice is 219. Global rankings are academic rankings only, no Pell or test scores just academic ratings.

Leave it to Emory mom to hijack another thread unrelated to Emory.

Stop lying about Emory then. If Rice was better it would show.

Rice is locked in the T20 whereas Emory has never cracked the T20. Rice sits next to the largest medical center in the world while Emory has…Atlanta? Rice has a lower acceptance rate than Emory. Emory needs a satellite campus while Rice does not.

Rice is 100% better and it shows. Stop being delusional. WashU, Rice, and Chicago — all schools you hate — are one, two, and three tiers above Emory, respectively.

No connection to either school, and Emory mom is insane, but Emory and Rice are definitely peers. Neither is a particularly hard admit ED.

From what I see on tiktok and Reddit, Rice is an easier admit than Emory

Obviously there are a lot of differences between the two schools, but my son is at Carleton and a lot of his friends also applied to Rice. My son also was interested in Rice and it was on his initial list but didn’t want to be in Houston.

Having said that, if your kid loves Rice I don’t think the location should be a dealbreaker. Texas is more blue than its gerrymandered politics would have you believe.

The amount of misinformation and childish angst in this thread is off the charts. Wow.

I'm a Duke alum. Trying to figure out Rice as I think it could be a great option as well for my child.

In comparing the two states, NC is more purple than Texas, though Houston is definitely very blue. However, Texas state government is trying to impose its crazy on the rest of the state more than what is happening in NC, though it is definitely also happening in NC. But there are some Dems in power in NC which help a bit.

But Texas is just also a lot further away. Harder to visit. Harder to get home for a quick break.

Duke has a contingent of super fratty types, but it is maybe 15%? It has a larger contingent of striver nerds than it used to. Contrary to stereotypes, Duke used to have a lot of very smart but not cutthroat types who liked sports, were social, but not fratty though some were in frats (this describes me and most of my friends). This type has largely been squeezed out by Asians and low income (there were lots of Asians when I was there but they were more assimilated).

Only in your mind. Rice is indeed a tier higher than Emory but equal peer to Duke, at least.

Say whatever. Rice has never been top 10 while Duke has never been out of top 10. It’s also evidenced by acceptance rates.

If this and the “washed up Tar Heel” comment above were from a Duke alum, that tells me the douchey rep of the school is alive and well.

Part of what is pretty unique about Rice is its size. And OP, if your kid likes everything about Rice but Texas, I echo the folks suggesting you visit because Houston is really, really different than any notion of Texas that most people have (or apply and then visit if she gets in).

William and Mary is nothing like Rice. Pomona is nothing like Rice. Rice is primarily known for its STEM majors, not so for the others.

Pomona’s best majors are in Math, Biology, Neuroscinece, Chem… I don’t have experience with these others but you’re gonna need to be a bit more specific by what you mean with STEM.

Not sure what you mean by “best majors” since it’s not a R1. Sophisticated STEM research won’t be available.

Emory has been ranked inside the T20 for 20 years. You're already lying. You clearly live delusion too. Rice grads cant even pay employers to hire them on wallstreet. Give it a rest loser.

Rice is no where near Duke. And the state will not elect a washed up liberal Tar Heel alum as a U.S. Senator.
