I have two prized possession - my grandmother's pashmina shawl (1950s) and a black chantilly lace saree that was my mom's from 1970s.

I also managed to rescue tiny Basra pearls which were originally sown into one of my grandmother's dress (alas the moths ate most of the dress) and asked a jeweller to string it into a lace patterned necklace.

I have some LLBean, Lands End and J Crew items of clothing from 1997-ish and it is shocking how far the quality has fallen for the same brands today.

Edit to add that today's crap will still be around, just taking space in a landfill.

Souvenir tee shirt from vacation to Seattle in 1989. I was 8 years old. It was huge on me but I liked the design. I still wear it, no holes no pilling just good quality cotton apparently. And very soft.

I have a couple of t shirts from high school, mid 90s. And a gorgeous wool coat that my mom bought, I think in the 80s? And handed down to me when she retired. I've had the lining replaced once, otherwise it's still in great shape.

My body changed so much after having kids that I really didn't keep anything from my youth other than those t shirts.
