The storm let up because of the ‘sacrifice’ of the guy who got locked in the creepy room in the basement. The demon ate him I guess?
But the demon wants 8 more…
How do we know the demon "wants 8 more"?
Because the bell tolls for every sacrifice it wants and it tolled 9 times in episode 2 and then 8 times at the very end of finale, after the guy got trapped in the room and killed.
The show has a lot of details and people need to maybe pay more attention and stop watching while scrolling their phones.
What is wrong with you? One can miss that detail (which might not even be correct) without "watching while scrolling."
NP. The detail is correct. This is a show where you need to pay full attention. It’s great, but you miss a lot if you casually watch.

Lauren started having a medical emergency as soon as she reached the water boundary so they turned around and Evan was born on the island.
Loftis was pretending to not believe, or was in deep denial (but not really when it came to letting Evan leave the island), but his main goal was to bring tourists to the island in order to revive it, so Evan could at least live in a pleasant, prosperous place if he can’t escape it. So he had to downplay and outright deny the curse and everything that went with it.
No, in fact, I did not watch the last episode!
It just seemed so inevitable that it would be Evan, and I think narrative inevitability is boring, I am more interested in a show that subverts my expectations. Oh well.

Oh nooo I thought the episode where they said it was Ruth and she had no children was the finale. Husband said the finale came out when we were traveling. I don't like this incredibly predictable twist! I wanted to be surprised!
There’s much less internal conflict if its not Evan. The story dropped the breadcrumbs along the way and it should pay off like it was set up. I don’t need a surprise for the sake of being surprised.
