Not sure about other men, but Adam Driver isn't handsome, and certainly on Girls wasn't more attractive than Lena Dunham.

I don't like her but I don't hate her..She comes off as extremely self involved and precious about how smart she thinks she is. Some of that is no doubt on her parents who must have always praised her and told her how special she is.

I thought it was weird on the show when she had super hot boyfriends that a woman like her would never get in real life. It seemed like fantasy wishcasting to convince the audience of her attractiveness.

I am appalled by how much she let herself go and is basically in the f-it mumu stage at age 40..That screams depression.

This, she's always been rich and connected. Her parents are very famous artists and her dad is from an old money elite NY family (they're related to the Tiffany family).

I didn’t know she was from a wealthy family and why should that matter? She’s legitimately smart and talented. She may not be your cup of tea, but she’s not like a brainless Tiffany or Ivanka Trump.

I don't think most people loved Roseanne, ever. She got a lot of the same flak that Lena gets. Fat, ugly, loud. People (even other women) reward women for being pretty, thin, and biddable.

This. You have to be VERY likeable to be fat in Hollywood without getting a lot of hate. Queen Latifah is actually a good example if someone with such a positive, pleasant personality that she avoids the hate. She's also gay, which I think eases the expectation that she conform to make expectations for beauty, but she was closeted early in career.

Other jovial fat women include Melissa McCarthy and Aidy Bryant. Comedic actors who are unusually pleasant. Plus they both have very pretty faces.

Lena is difficult, self-absorbed, annoying. Those are common traits in Hollywood (hello Sean Penn, Christian Bale, Shia LaBoef) but Lena has them while being a woman, and fat, and not pretty. She's still talented and hardworking, but people don't care because she's not thin or attractive.

My issue with her is that I feel like she is just constantly complaining about other people.

Possibly thanks to our fractured media environment, I've barely heard anything about her for a lot of years now.

she's trash she openly admits to sexually molesting her sister. But even before that came out I thought she was an attention... and a total freak. Don't know anyone she doesn't annoy anymore.

Agree. But in the particular instance of the rape allegations, she went out of her way to say that based on what she knew, the woman was lying about the rape. Later, when she apologizes, she admits that SHE (Lena) lied - and then goes on to say to the victim, "I love you. I will always love you."

For me, that's it in a nutshell. She'll say or do anything to remain in public discourse, including lie about information that leads her to publicly shame a rape victim. But then she still wants to be beloved. Who gives a good god damn that you "love" and will "always love" the victim after what you did to her? Apologize for your significant misdeed and then STFU.

Nothing, at all, to do with her size or appearance. It's about her actions and non-stop public statements.

Agree. I think people are triggered because it seems like a mediocre person with mediocre writing and mediocre looks and mediocre acting is getting her mediocre projects on HBO and Netflix. Writers and actors and producers would kill to get their screenplays picked up by HBO. And it seems to effortlessly happen for Lena Durham, and people can't figure out why. But people are still talking about Girls and Lena Dunham, so she clearly is hitting a nerve. And that's good of course.

I didn't think "Girls" was mediocre.

I didn’t think the first season was mediocre but kind of fell apart and became a vehicle for her to just pretend to date hot guys.

I totally agree with this. It's fascinating. And it's that she had the nerve to write a show where she was a character with romantic partners and show herself and her body when she is not conventionally attractive. It's triggering to people.

I also see a little high functioning autism there in a way that grates on people. This is going to sound crazy, but she and Taylor Swift are sort of similar to me- both famous millenials, both have some autistic /awkward behaviors and both are from parents who had money to help their daughters careers.

Taylor Swifts awkwardness is endearing and she is more attractive, so she collects fans, but Lena Dunham’s awkwardness makes you cringe as she is more abrasive, less of a social rules follower and less attractive.

She seems like she’s borderline personality disorder to me.
