I really love Arabella. Are you relived or think DD could have pulled it off?

Can you imagine being named Arabella as an adult. Yuck

Ivanka named her daughter Arabella. That tells you all you need to know.

I vetoed Wilson and Grover.

Thank you for your service. To put this politely, your husband has bad taste. Wilson? Wilson is a last name. GROVER? Was he naming a human being or a golden retriever?! I don't even care that there was a president with this name. It's a full-fledged dog name at this point.

My coworker has a granddaughter Claudia and I just love that name

My DH also rejected Claudia.

That makes three of us. My husband said it was too harsh of a name.

I wanted Serena but DH said it reminded him of Serena Van der Woodsen. I also wanted Summer but DH said it reminded him of Summer Glau. I vetoed Mona for obvious reasons.

Remember that show A Baby Story on TLC?
I saw an episode once where the mom had boy/girl twins, then she was pregnant with another set of boy/girl twins, whom she named Deja and Dejan for Deja Vous. So cringey.

Anonymous wrote:Soooooo many. My DH vetoed like everything I suggested. Here were names on my short list that he vetoed:

Girls: Josephine, Margaret (nn Maggie), Idalia, Lucia or Lucy, Miranda, Lilah, Cassandra (nn Cass or Sandra), Calliope (nn Callie), Diana -- there were so many others but this is just the ones I remember, I must have suggested 200 girls names and he vetoed all but two of them.

Boys: Milo, Calvin, George, Harrison, Frederick (nn Freddy), Elvin

He suggested almost no names, these are the ones I wound up vetoing of his:

Girls: June

Boys: Melvin, Howard, Gavin

Melvin and Howard! This man should get no say whatsoever.

My mother in law really thought we should name our son Ariel, for it's biblical roots.

Unfathomable.

I think any four syllable name becomes too much unless there is a nickname, or it can be said quickly without too much effort (Olivia/Amelia). I have a three syllable name and people try to shorten it often.

Whenever I hear the name Arabella I think of the scene from Three’s Company where Jack Tripper is in the bushes calling out the name Arabella and comedy ensues.

Anonymous wrote:Husband vetoed Willa and Simone. He was only agreeable to top 10 girl names.

I don't think either spouse (husband or wife) should be able to eliminate so many options by vetoing THAT many names from the jump. It basically takes away any input from the other parent. I wouldn't have agreed to that. The top 10 list is also ever-changing based on what is trendy at the moment, so what's the point? It won't be the same list as it is now in 5 years.

In my view, vetoes should only be used for names that you really wouldn't be able to tolerate.

DH is a musician and vetoed both Bruno and Axel. My son is such an Axel, so it's a bummer.
