Not for RD.
Why would anyone RD? EA isn’t binding.
Some kids want another shot at SAT or want to get grades up.
Or just don't have it together in time.

Our CCO told kids to write a separate personal statement for UVA that combined a personal statement in the traditional sense with something UVA specific (almost like a why school essay). Similar to what transfer students do.
So your supplemental essays made their way into the personal statement if that makes sense.
Kids who executed it well had great results.
Interesting, never thought of that.
Good strategy - wish others had told us.

Yep! No essays always lead to more apps and then a lower rate.
+1
DC is an example. Threw in an application in mid-December after being deferred ED from their first choice school. Why UVA? Because there were no supplementals this year, so DC figured why not.
No doubt a waste of money, but at the time it felt like a harmless act of self-soothing after the sting of deferral.![]()
And your point is what? The bottom line is your kid applied.
Sorry if I wasn't clear. No complaints or issues related to my kid!
I was just agreeing with the PP who said that by dropping the supplemental essays, UVA set themselves up to get more applications than ever this year - which in turn drove down the admit rate.
I was using my kid as an example. Meaning, if UVA had supplemental essays this year, DC would not have bothered to apply. Guessing there are plenty of other kids who did the same.
Anyway, good for UVA. Looking back on this whole process, my feeling is the fewer supplementals a kid has to write, the better!
