The yield rates at these merit schools tell you a vast majority of merit admits go somewhere else. More likely than not, they got admitted into a higher up.
That's not what this post anecdotally seems to be saying, is it?
What do you choose to believe? Yield rates for T50 schools are 15-20%. Where would the 80-85% go?
