Dufief 100% will be closed. It is the second least utilized ES. Once you factor in their special education students who do not live within boundaries, it becomes by far the single most underutilized ES.

Every dollar counts to save Wootton. They are going to Churchill anyways they can just merge with Wayside and Potomac.

Except mearly every dollar saved there would be considered equally for any of the CIP projects needed in the MCPS portfolio, not directed solely to Wootton. That is, if the County Council didn't simply absconded with the funds for their other purposes.

Impact-tax funding from new construction may need to go to a local school, but that could be offset from the much larger general fund portion of the CIP budget, and much which is so restricted might be assigned to, say, the completion of Crown, now that it would be serving the Wootton area, possibly including some of the current Cold Spring catchment. Or to some other capital expense they are doing anyway (HVAC replacements? Those seem to be needed all over.) Depends on how they define/see what would be local from that impact tax perspective.

Acorn Hill Waldorf school is *nearby* but it won't be co-loated. Just on the same road.

This site was determined too difficult for MCPS to build an elementary school on in just 2018 so I don't know why Taylor all of a sudden thinks he can make one work there now.

If they take back the old early elementary building that used to be part of Parkside ES that Acorn Hill Waldorf currently occupies, then there are many more options for construction available to them.

Back in 2019, when they shelved the idea, they said they didn't want to build into the hillside, which is where they said they would have to dp it if they didn't just use the old, inadequate upper Parkside building. That, and the refusal to consider the whole property, was all to get the community either to take a slap-dash, on-the-cheap reno (echoes of SSIMS/SCES being created, themselves, in the late 90s from the old Blair HS building) with dissolution of the school between that smaller building and already overutilized HVES or to complain about it enough that MCPS could throw their hands up and say, "We tried!," enabling them to down-scope the whole SSIMS/SCES remediation. Of course, the latter happened, and they then further downscoped the SSIMS-only part, carving off several million to add size to HVES...a project they then abandoned as too expensive and difficult.
